This must be one of those items that works great for some people and horribly for others. I purchased this a little bit hesitently after reading the negative reviews, but eventually decided it was worth a shot.
I wanted to use this to get rid of the hair on my back. So I smeared it all over with some contortions and set a timer for 15 minutes. The smell at first wasn’t bad at all, but it quickly turned into a nasty, chemical smell that reminded me of the perms my mom and sister did once. It wans’t horribly overpowering though, just irritating.
After the 15 minutes were up I used a washcloth and wiped all the hair off. It seemed to work best if you were slow and methodical in this step. I also found myself rinsing the washcloth often to get the hair off. Then I jumped in the shower and rinsed and washed with soap.
In the end I ended up with a perfectly smooth, hairless back and zero irritation. So far its been a week and there is no stubble, so I’m happy with the results.
When my 18 year old son came home from college for Spring Break, he had a mission. He wanted to transform from “Big Foot’s” cousin to “a dolphin with eyebrows”. In other words, he wanted to get rid of some of his body hair. Now, I didn’t think it looked too bad but since he was determined to get it taken care of I figured I should at least guide the efforts. The first stop was the local salon for a chest wax. It worked great but according to him it was very painful and he broke out in a rash that night. Benadryl cream helped but it took a few days to go away. His dermatologist’s office recommended a product like Nair so the next time I was at the Pharmacy I picked some up. He carefully read the instructions and tried some on a small area on his ankle. That seemed to work well so he did the rest of his legs today and it worked fine. I have no doubt that it may “burn” some people but for whatever reason my son’s skin did not react negatively to it. So if you’re thinking about using this product DO A TEST AREA FIRST! That’s the only way to make sure you won’t react negatively to the product. The smell is no more offensive than shaving cream so just imagine 5 guys shaving at once and that’s about how it smells. Get lots of towels – preferably towels that mom doesn’t mind ruining a bit and follow the instructions. Good luck.
I have just used the product and i think it works exactly as advertised. I would like to address some concerns that other readers have noted:
1. Smell- it does not smell good; it smells like burning hair. Jump in the shower and wash it off (you should do this anyway as it is probably not good to leave on your skin). The product is not marketed as a fragrance product so i don’t feel that this detracts from it.
2. Sensitive skin- i do not have sensitive skin so i could not comment on this. But for me, i get no irritation. But try a small portion on a covered body part just to be sure.
3. Other than that, the product works great. Smooth skin in as long as it takes you to lather it on, wait 10 min, then take a shower.
I tried this out on my chest and some of my stomach. It took two applications to get satisfactory results, and even then I had to spot check with a razor to get places that it missed. I also was not willing to apply it a third time as the smell is pretty scary and it was starting to irritate my skin.
Three days later I tried it again thinking it would work better since all I had was a little stubble. Wrong! It did almost nothing, and now my chest feels like I have a mild sunburn.
You are better off using a razor than this stuff. It would be way less hard on your skin, and take about half of the time.
This product did exactly what it said it would do. It removed unwanted hair quickly, painlessly and without an overwhelmingly bad odor. As a matter of fact, the smell was ok at first, but then became a little salon/chemical-ish, if you know what that smells like.
It was very easy to use, removed hair with ease and I’m pleased with the results. My only wish is that the hair didn’t grow back so quickly. I’ve had wax removal before and it takes much longer for the hair to grow back. The product claims that less hair will grow back, but I cannot comment on that claim yet since it’s only been about a month since I used it.
